A new Habitat for Humanity home for the holidays for Regina family ...

A Regina family has a new place to call home ? thanks to some Mounties in red and Habitat for Humanity.

?It?s a new beginning for us from where we were. It?s a fresh start for the boys ? a future for the boys so it means a lot,? said the new homeowner Christine Eberle.

Eberle and her children received the key to her house Monday at RCMP Depot?s Drill Hall in the presence of cadets, some of whom helped build her house.

?Always remember how you?ve taken a broken family and gave a mom and her boys some faith, confidence, pride and most of all hope,? Eberle told the cadets in an emotional speech on Monday.

Eberle has been living with her sister and their family since her husband left the family and their rental property became unavailable. For nine months, her and her four boys, ranging in age from 10 to 17, have been living in a three-bedroom house with a total of nine people. Eberle?s Habitat house was financially sponsored by the Mounted Police ?Depot? Division and many cadets took the time to volunteer in building it.

?If you can help families grow, change their lives and get a leg up, its limitless what you can actually do. You can?t teach this in a classroom. This is real. Christine and her family are living a real life situation,? said Roger Brown, commanding officer of Regina?s Depot. Division.

Brown says a big part of their philosophy behind the project is to pay-it-forward and has already started raising funds for a third Mountie House.
